These 5 steps helped a transitioning teacher land weekly ID interviews

 Step 1: Quickly Create a Portfolio 

Most ID hiring managers will not consider an applicant that doesn't include a link to their portfolio.

If you don’t have one yet, you might feel overwhelmed by the suggestion, but I want you to know it can be created in just 1-2 hours.

 Create a Portfolio in 1-2 Hours:

• Gather at least 3 related eLearning work samples. Click here for a list of related work.

  Screen record your eLearning samples and save the video as an MP4 to your Google Drive. Share a public link to that video as your portfolio!

 Step 2: One Sample using Industry-tool Standards

•  Create at least one sample using a tool like Articulate Storyline 360 or Rise.

This could take quite a bit of time self-teaching while following youtube tutorials, but you can see the end of the article to learn how you can learn Storyline 360 fast. 

 Step 3:  One Sample Showcasing Innovative Problem-Solving

• Quickly create at least one forward-thinking sample, such as micro-learning, creative use of AI tools, or AR/VR-friendly immersive learning.

In under 12 hours, you can learn several AI tools, apply ID learning theory and create a portfolio with an immersive & interactive learning scenario sample created in Storyline 360 (more at the end of this article).

The point is, you’ll want to create at least one sample that goes beyond just an Articulate-built, interactive PowerPoint-style presentation—to truly stand out from the crowd.

With estimates suggesting that only 15% of online courses are fully completed on average, hiring managers are realizing that they need more effective and engaging approaches that actually drive results.

Step 4: Use This Cover Letter & Direct Message Sales Strategy

Whether you know it or not, when you apply for jobs, you’re engaging in sales. The hiring manager has a problem, and they’re looking to pay someone to solve it. Your job is to sell yourself as the solution.

How to Quickly Customize Your Cover Letter & DM Using Sales Strategy in ChatGPT:

1. Copy and paste this prompt into ChatGPT:
   "List possible pain points this company may be facing leading them to need to hire for this role: [paste job posting link]."
2. Spend 10 minutes reviewing the pain points and identifying how your skills align with their needs.
3. Plug those pain points and related skills into the Cover Letter Template and DM Template provided to sell yourself as the solution.

Then, attach that Skills List Document, this Cover Letter Template and this Direct Message Template to ChatGPT. Then, paste the job posting link and use this prompt:

• Prompt: Using the templates provided, help me craft a compelling cover letter and direct message and my unique strengths for this job posting [link to job posting].

Step 5: Cater Your Resume for Each Job Post

Before applying, tailor your resume for each application using your Skills List Document by following Step 3 in the job hunting strategy.

Then, send the Direct Message to the hiring manager, attaching your resume and cover letter to significantly increase your chances of standing out.
